The final two concerts of the Hingham Public Library Boston Classical Guitar Society season will feature Michael Nigro on guitar on June 5 and guitar and flute duo Michael Bester and Amanda Roeder on June 12. Registration is not required for these free in-person events. Everyone is welcome.
Sunday, June 5, 3 p.m., Whiton Room: International concert artist Michael Nigro has performed across the United States and internationally, performing in the Philippines, Argentina, Chile, and Bulgaria. He has also given concerts and masterclasses for numerous universities, performing arts centers, church concert series, guitar societies, libraries and museums.
From 2006 to 2018, Nigro was an assistant professor of music at Vanguard University, where he established a comprehensive guitar program that included a cycle of guitar lessons in literature, pedagogy, and fretboard techniques. He has also taught guitar ensemble, guitar quartet, beginner guitar and introduction to music lessons.
Nigro, an active member of the guitar community, is co-founder of the Long Beach Classical Guitar Society, co-author of “The Essential Classical Guitar Scale Book”, reviewer of new music publications for Soundboard, and a sought-after teacher and interpreter.
Sunday, June 12, 3 p.m., Whiton Room: Amanda Roeder – multi-instrumentalist and music educator, judge and performer – and Michael Bester – acoustic and electric guitarist, bassist, arranger, producer and composer – will perform music for guitar and flute at this concert.
Roeder – who has led the choral ensembles and an award-winning a cappella program at Chelmsford Secondary School since 2014 – is an experienced musical theater director and pit orchestra musician for school and community productions in the North East from Massachusetts. A passionate educator and community builder, she has served on the boards of numerous organizations that promote quality music education.
Bester is versed in many musical styles, from classical and jazz to rock and pop and beyond. In recent years, he has performed in the Bester Papineau Guitar Duo, as well as pit orchestras in the greater Boston area.
