ZZ Top Star Billy Gibbons Makes Surprise Appearance in Grade 2 Class
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Billy Gibbons made a surprise appearance in a Texas elementary classroom to read for a stunned group of Grade 2 students!
The ‘ZZ Top’ star walked through Dallas, Texas Thursday morning to enter the draw for the unbeaten Southern Methodist University Mustangs football team, as they took on the Tulane Green Wave. But the biggest news is that the rock star has decided to stop by a local elementary school and shock students and teachers.
We are told that the apparition was scheduled at the last minute by the guitarist to visit his godson, Greyson ‘Queso’ Kennedy, who attends John S. Bradfield Elementary School in Highland Park. School principal Regina Dumar and teacher Caroline Fischer worked with Greyson’s father to organize the event. Queso’s father is a legendary Las Vegas executive, Marklen Kennedy, who is also a successful Hollywood producer.

We are told that the surprise unfolded perfectly, as the teacher walked around the classroom alongside Gibbons. After greeting the enthusiastic Grade 2 students, Ms. Fischer asked if Gibbons would read to the class and spoke about the classic book âA Light in the Atticâ by Shel Silverstein.
“It would be my pleasure,” replied Billy. Adding: “I’ve done a lot of things in my life, but I’ve never done this!”
In one of the greatest classroom moments of all time, the rock star sat down and read the whole book to the children, in a gentle and courteous tone. And, the pictures are amazing!

Immediately after story time, Gibbons sat down with the school principal, who wasn’t going to let this amazing moment go by without a little autograph session. âI hate to ask, but could you please sign something for me,â Dumar asked. Of course, Gibbons graciously agreed and Mrs. Dumar released the finest Fender Telecaster guitar with a moss green maple neck. The “ZZ Top” star was amazing with the superb guitar and asked where she had acquired such a beautiful specimen.
âOh, it’s mine. I play, âshe replied.

Best part, not only did Gibbons visit his godson and host Children’s Day, he also met a rock star director! Only in Texas!
BTW – Billy’s draw went in the direction of SMU, and the Mustangs kept winning and staying undefeated over the year.

As we have reported, Billy lost his bandmate – Dusty Hill – over the summer following his death following hospitalization for a hip problem. The group issued a statement, saying, âWe are saddened by the news today that our companion, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX. We, as well as legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will regret your unwavering presence, your good nature, and your enduring commitment to providing this monumental backdrop to the âTopâ.
Adding: “We will be forever connected to this” Blues Shuffle in C. We will miss you dearly, amigo. “
